Floppy Forest
Bea McMahon
With a performance in collaboration with Artémise Ploegaerts
An installation of new works combining inflatable sculpture, sound, moving image and drawing. It is the second in a trilogy of exhibitions that began with the echolocation of bats and is an attempt to discover poetic forms of agency that exist between non-speaking beings and the world.
McMahon works with video, installation and performance art. Her work often navigates through conceptions of reality and their corresponding appearances in the outside world. Trained in mathematics, she employs versions and associations of mathematics and physics that play with distinctions between objects, space and time.
Recent projects include Under Bat Hill; group exhibition at W139, Amsterdam 2021; Cave Gallery, Tokyo 2020 and Manifesto at Galerie Van Zijl Langhout, Amsterdam 2020.
She has undertaken residencies at Flattime House, London, ACC Gwangju, Korea; The Mattress Factory, Pittsburg; Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam and Via Farini, Milan. She is in the collections of the Irish Museum of Modern Art and FRAC Midi- Pyrenees. She is number zero in the Polish art parasite BRUD.
She edits a zine SIC Intertrashional that is launched with performances during the earth’s equinoxes, she composes and performs with the lip-synching franchise Dina from Egypt and the collective Multiple Choice, that produces all kinds of multiples.
